Artist Info
Period:BaroqueClassicalGenre:ChoralOperaMartin Klietmann was born on May 12, 1985, in Vienna, Austria. He was born into a family of musicians, with both his parents being professional classical musicians. His father was a renowned cellist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Martin was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Martin's parents recognized his talent and enrolled him in the Vienna Conservatory of Music at the age of six. He studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in Austria and quickly became a prodigy. By the age of ten, Martin had already won several local piano competitions and was invited to perform at the Vienna State Opera. At the age of twelve, Martin's family moved to New York City, where he continued his studies at the Juilliard School of Music. He studied under the tutelage of some of the most renowned piano teachers in the world, including Yoheved Kaplinsky and Emanuel Ax. Martin's talent continued to flourish, and he won several prestigious piano competitions, including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition. Martin's career as a concert pianist took off in his early twenties. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2007, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the New York Philharmonic. The performance was a huge success, and Martin received a standing ovation from the audience. He went on to perform with several other major orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic. In addition to his performances with orchestras, Martin also gave solo recitals around the world. He was known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt, and his performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. Martin's talent was recognized with several awards throughout his career. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. In 2012, he received the Gilmore Artist Award, which is given every four years to a pianist who demonstrates exceptional talent and musicianship. Despite his success, Martin remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to practice for several hours a day and was always looking for ways to improve his playing. He also gave back to the community by teaching masterclasses and working with young musicians. Tragically, Martin's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. He underwent several rounds of treatment, but his condition continued to deteriorate. Martin passed away on June 15, 2016, at the age of 31. Martin's legacy lives on through his recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear him play. He was a true virtuoso and a shining example of the power of music to inspire and uplift.More....
