Jodie Devos is a Belgian soprano who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born on May 12, 1988, in Brussels, Belgium, Devos grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz musician, and her mother was a classical pianist. Devos started singing at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Devos began her formal music education at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she studied under the guidance of Dina Grossberger. She later continued her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she studied with Malcolm Walker. Devos also attended masterclasses with renowned singers such as Teresa Berganza, Mirella Freni, and Christa Ludwig. Devos made her professional debut in 2012, performing the role of Barbarina in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" at the Opéra de Lausanne in Switzerland. She quickly gained recognition for her talent and was invited to perform in various opera houses and festivals across Europe. One of Devos's most notable performances was her portrayal of Olympia in Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffmann" at the Opéra de Lyon in 2014. Her performance was praised for its technical precision and comedic timing. Devos also received critical acclaim for her performance as Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss's "Ariadne auf Naxos" at the Opéra de Lille in 2016. Devos has also performed in numerous concerts and recitals, showcasing her versatility as a singer. In 2017, she performed in a concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, where she sang a selection of French art songs. She has also performed in recitals at the Wigmore Hall in London and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Devos has received several awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2014, she was awarded the Prix Lyrique du Cercle Carpeaux for her performance in "Les Contes d'Hoffmann." She was also a finalist in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2014, where she was awarded the Prix de la Musique Contemporaine for her interpretation of a contemporary piece. In 2018, Devos was awarded the title of "Révélation lyrique" by the French music magazine Diapason. The following year, she was awarded the "Prix de la Critique" by the Belgian music magazine Crescendo. Devos continues to perform regularly and is considered one of the most promising young sopranos of her generation. Her repertoire includes works by Mozart, Offenbach, Strauss, and contemporary composers such as Philippe Boesmans and Benjamin Attahir. She is known for her technical precision, expressive interpretation, and engaging stage presence.
