Role:Conductor PerformerBrett Weymark is a renowned Australian conductor and choral director, known for his exceptional musicianship and dynamic performances. Born in Sydney in 1963, Weymark grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His father was a professional trumpet player, and his mother was a music teacher, so it was only natural that Weymark would follow in their footsteps. Weymark began his musical education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studied trumpet and conducting. He later went on to complete a Master of Music degree at the University of Sydney, where he focused on choral conducting. During this time, Weymark also gained valuable experience as a chorister and conductor with various choirs and orchestras in Sydney. In 1990, Weymark was appointed as the Director of Music at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney, where he oversaw the cathedral's music program and conducted the choir. He also continued to work as a freelance conductor and choral director, collaborating with a wide range of ensembles and orchestras throughout Australia and internationally. One of Weymark's most notable achievements as a conductor was his appointment as the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs in 2003. Under his leadership, the choir grew in size and reputation, and Weymark became known for his innovative programming and dynamic performances. He also established the Sydney Philharmonia Chamber Singers, a smaller ensemble within the choir that focused on a cappella repertoire. Weymark's work with the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. In 2007, he was awarded the prestigious Order of Australia for his services to music, and in 2010, he received the Australia Council Music Fellowship, which is the highest honor for an Australian musician. He has also been awarded the APRA-AMCOS Art Music Award for Excellence in Choral Music three times, in 2009, 2011, and 2016. In addition to his work with the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Weymark has conducted many other orchestras and choirs throughout Australia and internationally. He has worked with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, among others. He has also conducted choirs in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Weymark is known for his versatility as a conductor, and his repertoire spans a wide range of styles and genres. He has conducted everything from classical choral works to contemporary pop songs, and he is particularly known for his work with Australian composers and musicians. He has premiered many new works by Australian composers, and he has collaborated with artists such as Paul Kelly, Kate Miller-Heidke, and Tim Minchin. One of Weymark's most memorable performances was his conducting of Handel's Messiah at the Sydney Opera House in 2016. This performance was particularly significant because it marked the first time that the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs had performed at the Opera House in over 40 years. The performance was a huge success, and it received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Weymark is also known for his work as an educator and mentor. He has taught conducting and choral music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the University of Sydney, and the Australian National University.More....
