He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Auriacombe began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. He went on to study at the Toulouse Conservatory, where he received a degree in piano performance. After completing his studies, Auriacombe began his career as a pianist, performing in concerts throughout France. However, he soon realized that his true passion was conducting, and he began to focus on developing his skills in this area. He studied conducting with renowned conductors such as Charles Munch and Pierre Monteux, and he quickly gained a reputation as a talented and skilled conductor. In 1949, Auriacombe was appointed as the conductor of the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, a position he held for several years. During this time, he also conducted the Orchestre National de France and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. In 1956, he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Bordeaux Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for over a decade. Auriacombe's career as a conductor was marked by numerous highlights and achievements. He was known for his interpretations of the works of French composers such as Debussy, Ravel, and Saint-Saëns, and he was also highly regarded for his performances of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. He conducted many world premieres of contemporary works, including pieces by Olivier Messiaen and Henri Dutilleux. One of Auriacombe's most notable achievements was his work with the Bordeaux Symphony Orchestra. Under his leadership, the orchestra gained international recognition and toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States. In 1967, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé with the Bordeaux Symphony Orchestra.
