Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1947, O'Conor began his musical studies at an early age, showing a natural talent for the piano that would eventually lead him to become one of the most respected musicians of his generation. O'Conor's early years were marked by a deep love of music and a dedication to his craft. He studied with some of the most respected teachers in Ireland, including Frank Heneghan and John Field, and quickly gained a reputation as a prodigious talent. In 1970, he won first prize at the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna, Austria, launching his career as a soloist and chamber musician. Over the years, O'Conor has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the leading conductors of his time, including Leonard Bernstein, André Previn, and Sir Simon Rattle. One of the highlights of O'Conor's career came in 1986, when he was invited to perform at the inauguration of President Mary Robinson of Ireland. His performance of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" was widely praised and helped to cement his reputation as one of Ireland's most important cultural ambassadors. In addition to his work as a performer, O'Conor has also made significant contributions to the world of music education. He has served as a professor of piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Dublin Conservatory of Music, and has given masterclasses and workshops around the world.
