Robert Geary is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on August 22, 1952, in San Francisco, California, to a family of musicians. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer, which inspired him to pursue a career in music. Geary began his musical journey at a young age, learning to play the piano and singing in his church choir. He attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied voice and choral conducting. He later went on to earn a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the University of Southern California. Geary's career as a conductor began in 1978 when he founded the Piedmont Children's Choir in Oakland, California. The choir quickly gained recognition for its exceptional performances and was invited to perform at the White House in 1982. Geary continued to lead the choir for over 20 years, during which time it grew to become one of the most respected children's choirs in the country. In addition to his work with the Piedmont Children's Choir, Geary has conducted numerous other choirs and orchestras throughout his career. He has worked with the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera, and the Oakland Symphony, among others. He has also conducted choirs in Europe, Asia, and South America. One of Geary's most significant achievements was his work as the artistic director of Volti, a contemporary vocal ensemble based in San Francisco. Under his leadership, Volti gained a reputation for performing innovative and challenging works by contemporary composers. Geary's commitment to new music earned him the ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming in 2005. Geary has also been recognized for his contributions to music education. He has served as a guest conductor and clinician for numerous music festivals and workshops, including the American Choral Directors Association and the International Federation for Choral Music. He has also taught choral conducting at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of California, Berkeley. Throughout his career, Geary has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to music. In 2010, he was awarded the Louis Botto Award for Innovative Action and Entrepreneurial Zeal by Chorus America. In 2015, he was named a Fellow of the American Choral Directors Association, one of the highest honors in the field of choral music. Geary's legacy as a conductor and music educator is a testament to his passion for music and his commitment to excellence. His dedication to new music and his ability to inspire young musicians have made him a beloved figure in the world of classical music.
