Role:EnsembleEnsemble SurPlus is a contemporary classical music group that was founded in 1992 in Freiburg, Germany. The group was formed by a group of young musicians who were interested in exploring new and experimental music. The founding members of the group were the flutist Christian Kemper, the clarinetist Carl Rosman, the pianist Florian Hoelscher, and the percussionist Christian Dierstein. The group quickly gained a reputation for their innovative and daring performances, and they soon began to attract attention from audiences and critics alike. They were particularly known for their performances of contemporary music, and they quickly became one of the leading ensembles in this field. Over the years, Ensemble SurPlus has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals around the world. They have performed at the Donaueschingen Festival, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, and the Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music, among others. One of the highlights of the group's career was their performance of Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Kontakte" at the Donaueschingen Festival in 1996. This performance was widely praised for its technical virtuosity and its innovative use of electronic music. Ensemble SurPlus has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1998, they were awarded the Kranichsteiner Musikpreis, which is one of the most prestigious awards for contemporary music in Germany. They have also been awarded the German Record Critics' Award, the SWR Music Prize, and the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize. In addition to their performances, Ensemble SurPlus has also been active in commissioning and premiering new works by contemporary composers. They have worked with composers such as Brian Ferneyhough, Helmut Lachenmann, and Rebecca Saunders, among others. Ensemble SurPlus has released several recordings over the years, including a recording of Stockhausen's "Kontakte" and a recording of Ferneyhough's "Terrain". Their recordings have been widely praised for their technical precision and their innovative interpretations of contemporary music. Today, Ensemble SurPlus continues to be one of the leading ensembles in contemporary classical music. They remain committed to exploring new and experimental music, and they continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in classical music.More....
