Artist Info
Camerata RCO is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 by members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The ensemble is made up of 18 musicians who are all members of the RCO, one of the world's leading orchestras. The idea for Camerata RCO came from a desire among the RCO musicians to explore chamber music repertoire and to perform in smaller, more intimate settings. The ensemble's founding members included violinists Annebeth Webb and Joris van Rijn, violist Santa Vizine, cellist Honorine Schaeffer, and double bassist Olivier Thiery. Since its founding, Camerata RCO has become known for its dynamic and engaging performances, which showcase the individual talents of its members as well as their collective musicianship. The ensemble has performed in venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. One of the highlights of Camerata RCO's early years was its 2010 performance at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam, where the ensemble played a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. The concert was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and helped to establish Camerata RCO as a major force in the world of chamber music. In 2012, Camerata RCO released its debut album, featuring works by Mozart and Mendelssohn. The album received critical acclaim and helped to further raise the ensemble's profile. Since then, Camerata RCO has released several more albums, including recordings of works by Schubert, Brahms, and Dvořák. In addition to its regular concert schedule, Camerata RCO has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and ensembles. In 2014, the ensemble performed with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and in 2016, it collaborated with the Dutch National Ballet on a production of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. Camerata RCO has also been recognized for its contributions to the world of classical music. In 2013, the ensemble was awarded the Dutch Classical Music Award, and in 2015, it received the Edison Klassiek Award for its recording of Brahms' String Sextets. Despite its success, Camerata RCO remains committed to exploring new repertoire and pushing the boundaries of chamber music performance. The ensemble's members continue to perform with the RCO, but also relish the opportunity to collaborate with each other and with other musicians outside of the orchestra. Overall, Camerata RCO is a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring appeal of chamber music. With its talented musicians and innovative programming, the ensemble is sure to continue delighting audiences around the world for years to come.More....
