He was born on June 22, 1949, in Milan, Italy, and began his musical studies at a young age. His father was a pianist and composer, and his mother was a singer, so music was always a part of his life. Spada studied at the Milan Conservatory, where he was a student of Carlo Vidusso. He later continued his studies with Maria Tipo and Wilhelm Kempff. He made his debut as a pianist in 1967, at the age of 18, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano. Throughout his career, Spada has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors, such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, and Zubin Mehta. One of Spada's most notable performances was his interpretation of Beethoven's complete piano sonatas, which he performed in a series of concerts in Milan in 1988. The performances were highly acclaimed, and Spada's recordings of the sonatas have been praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. In addition to his work as a pianist, Spada is also a respected conductor. He has conducted many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
