Eugene Corporon is a renowned conductor and music educator who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on August 12, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, Corporon grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a band director, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Corporon showed a keen interest in music and began playing the trumpet in his school band. Corporon attended the University of Miami, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree in conducting at the University of Northern Colorado. After completing his studies, Corporon began his career as a music educator, teaching at various schools and universities across the United States. In 1980, Corporon was appointed as the Director of Bands at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. During his tenure, he transformed the school's band program into one of the most respected in the country. He also founded the Cincinnati Wind Symphony, a professional ensemble that has performed at major music festivals and venues around the world. Corporon's reputation as a conductor grew rapidly, and he was soon in demand as a guest conductor for orchestras and wind ensembles across the United States and Europe. He has conducted the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra, and the North Texas Wind Symphony, among others. One of Corporon's most significant achievements was his work with the North Texas Wind Symphony. He was appointed as the ensemble's conductor in 2000 and quickly transformed it into one of the most respected wind ensembles in the world.
