Born on May 31, 1986, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Philippens began playing the violin at the age of four and showed an early talent for the instrument. Philippens studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany, where she received her Master's degree in 2010. During her studies, she won several awards and competitions, including the Dutch National Violin Competition in 2009 and the International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart in 2011. After completing her studies, Philippens began performing as a soloist with orchestras around the world, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. She has also performed at major music festivals, such as the BBC Proms, the Salzburg Festival, and the Rheingau Musik Festival. One of Philippens' most notable performances was her debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2014, where she performed the Violin Concerto No. 1 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
