Elizabeth Wallfisch, who was born in Australia, is a renowned Baroque violinist who has performed with many of the world's leading Baroque ensembles, including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Academy of Ancient Music. Charlotte Nediger, who was born in Canada, is a harpsichordist and organist who has performed with many of the leading Baroque ensembles in North America, including Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Les Violons du Roy. L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra takes its name from the legendary musician, Orpheus, who was said to have had the power to charm all living things with his music. The ensemble's mission is to bring the music of the Baroque era to life, using period instruments and historically informed performance practices. The ensemble's core members include Elizabeth Wallfisch on violin, Charlotte Nediger on harpsichord, and a rotating cast of musicians who specialize in playing period instruments. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by Baroque composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Purcell, as well as lesser-known composers from the era. One of the highlights of L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra's career was its performance at the 2008 Boston Early Music Festival, where the ensemble was praised for its "exquisite playing" and "impeccable ensemble work." The ensemble has also performed at many other prestigious venues and festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Vancouver Early Music Festival, and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. In addition to its live performances, L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. The ensemble's debut album, "Bach: Violin Concertos," was released in 2000 and was praised for its "sparkling performances" and "impeccable musicianship." The ensemble has also released recordings of works by Handel, Vivaldi, and Telemann, among others. L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra has received numerous awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. In 2002, the ensemble was awarded the Prix Opus for "Concert of the Year" by the Conseil québécois de la musique.
