Genre:ChamberOrchestralL'Archibudelli is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1985 by the Dutch cellist Anner Bylsma. The ensemble was named after the Italian violin maker Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, whose instruments were played by the group's members. L'Archibudelli was known for its performances of chamber music from the Classical and Romantic periods, as well as for its use of period instruments. The main members of L'Archibudelli were Anner Bylsma on cello, Vera Beths on violin, and Stanley Hoogland on fortepiano. Bylsma was a renowned cellist who had previously played with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Beths was a violinist who had played with the Dutch String Quartet and the Schoenberg Ensemble. Hoogland was a fortepianist who had played with the Orchestra of the 18th Century and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. L'Archibudelli's performances were characterized by their historical accuracy and attention to detail. The ensemble used period instruments, such as gut strings and wooden bows, to recreate the sound of the music as it would have been heard during the time it was composed. The group also paid close attention to historical performance practices, such as ornamentation and improvisation. One of L'Archibudelli's most notable performances was their recording of the complete string quartets of Franz Schubert. The recording, which was released in 1991, was praised for its sensitivity and emotional depth. The ensemble also recorded the complete piano trios of Ludwig van Beethoven, which were released in 1994. L'Archibudelli received several awards and honors during its career. In 1992, the ensemble was awarded the Edison Award, which is one of the most prestigious music awards in the Netherlands. The group was also awarded the Diapason d'Or, which is a French music award, for their recording of the Schubert string quartets. Despite its success, L'Archibudelli disbanded in 1998 due to personal and artistic differences among its members. However, the ensemble's recordings continue to be highly regarded and are considered to be some of the finest examples of historically informed performance practice.More....
