Artist Info
Birth:in Erlangen, GermanyXenia Löffler is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a virtuoso performer on the baroque oboe and recorder. Born in 1979 in Germany, Löffler grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. Her father was a conductor and her mother was a violinist, and they both encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Löffler began her musical training on the recorder, which she started playing at the age of six. She quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began performing in public at a young age. She later added the oboe to her repertoire and became equally skilled on both instruments. In 1998, Löffler enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, where she studied with renowned oboist Günther Passin. She also studied with Hans-Peter Westermann at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. During her studies, Löffler won several awards and competitions, including the German Music Competition and the International Telemann Competition. After completing her studies, Löffler began performing professionally as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly gained a reputation as one of the leading baroque oboists and recorders of her generation. She has performed with many of the world's leading baroque ensembles, including the Freiburger Barockorchester, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. One of Löffler's most notable performances was her solo debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2004. She performed the oboe concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach, which was met with critical acclaim. She has since performed with many other major orchestras, including the Munich Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. In addition to her work as a soloist, Löffler is also a sought-after chamber musician. She has performed with many of the world's leading baroque ensembles, including the Freiburger Barockorchester, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. She is a founding member of the ensemble Les Amis de Philippe, which specializes in French baroque music. Löffler has also made several recordings as a soloist and chamber musician. Her recordings have received critical acclaim and have won several awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the Echo Klassik Award. Her recording of Bach's oboe concertos with the Freiburger Barockorchester was particularly well-received and is considered one of the definitive recordings of the works. In addition to her performing and recording career, Löffler is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at several music schools and conservatories, including the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. She is currently a professor of baroque oboe at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig. Throughout her career, Löffler has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to classical music. In 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik Award for her recording of Bach's oboe concertos.
