Artist Info
Role:ComposerBirth:ca. 1694Death:March 17, 1730Antonín Reichenauer was a Czech composer of the Baroque era, born in Prague in 1694. He was the son of a musician and began his musical education at a young age, studying with his father and later with Johann Joseph Fux in Vienna. Reichenauer's early works were primarily vocal compositions, including sacred music such as masses and motets, as well as secular works such as operas and cantatas. He was known for his skillful use of counterpoint and his ability to create complex and intricate musical textures. One of Reichenauer's most famous works is his opera "La Cilla," which was first performed in Prague in 1723. The opera tells the story of a young woman who is forced to choose between two suitors, and features arias, duets, and ensemble pieces that showcase Reichenauer's talent for melody and harmony. In addition to his vocal works, Reichenauer also composed instrumental music, including sonatas and concertos for various instruments. His works for the violin are particularly notable, and he was known for his use of virtuosic techniques and expressive melodies. Reichenauer spent much of his career in Prague, where he served as the court composer for the Archbishop of Prague. He also worked as a music teacher and was highly respected by his students, many of whom went on to become successful composers in their own right. Despite his success during his lifetime, Reichenauer's music fell out of favor in the years following his death in 1730. However, in recent years there has been renewed interest in his work, and his compositions are once again being performed and recorded by musicians around the world.More....
