Todd Reynolds is a renowned American violinist and composer who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on September 18, 1962, in San Francisco, California, Reynolds grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist. Reynolds started playing the violin at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Reynolds received his formal education in music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he studied under the guidance of Roland and Almita Vamos. He later went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Dorothy DeLay and Robert Mann. Reynolds began his professional career as a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, where he played for six years. He then joined the Steve Reich Ensemble, where he worked for over a decade. During his time with the Steve Reich Ensemble, Reynolds performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Royal Albert Hall. In addition to his work with the Steve Reich Ensemble, Reynolds has collaborated with a wide range of artists and ensembles, including Yo-Yo Ma, Meredith Monk, and Bang on a Can. He has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Sinfonietta, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the San Francisco Symphony. Reynolds is known for his innovative approach to classical music, which incorporates elements of jazz, rock, and electronic music. He has been a pioneer in the use of technology in classical music, using live looping and other digital effects to create complex, layered soundscapes. One of Reynolds' most significant achievements was the creation of the Still Life with Microphone project, which he developed in collaboration with composer Michael Gordon.
