Born in Germany in 1968, Altmann showed an early interest in music and began playing the clarinet at the age of nine. He quickly developed a passion for the instrument and began taking lessons with renowned clarinetists in Germany. Altmann's talent and dedication to music led him to pursue a career in music. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, where he received his diploma in clarinet performance. He then went on to study with renowned clarinetists such as Sabine Meyer and Karl Leister. Throughout his career, Altmann has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with renowned conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Zubin Mehta. One of the highlights of Altmann's career was his performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1995. He was invited to perform Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic, which was conducted by Zubin Mehta. The performance was a huge success, and Altmann received critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing. In addition to his performances with orchestras, Altmann is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with some of the world's most renowned chamber ensembles, including the Alban Berg Quartet and the Hagen Quartet.
