He was born on August 22, 1950, in New York City, United States. From a young age, Rose showed a keen interest in music and began playing the French horn at the age of 10. He was inspired by his father, who was a professional trumpet player. Rose attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with renowned horn player James Chambers. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1972 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music. During his time at the Manhattan School of Music, Rose studied with horn player John Clark and graduated in 1974. After completing his studies, Rose began his professional career as a freelance musician in New York City. He quickly established himself as a talented horn player and was soon in demand by some of the most prestigious orchestras in the country. In 1976, Rose joined the New York City Ballet Orchestra as principal horn player, a position he held for 25 years. During his time with the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Rose also performed with other orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the American Symphony Orchestra. He also performed as a soloist with various orchestras, including the New York Chamber Symphony and the New York Virtuosi. In addition to his work as a performer, Rose is also a respected teacher and has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Yale School of Music. He has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world. One of the highlights of Rose's career was his performance at the 1980 Grammy Awards. He was part of the orchestra that performed with Frank Sinatra, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
