She began playing the piano at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Her parents recognized her potential and enrolled her in the Leningrad Conservatory, where she studied under the tutelage of some of the most distinguished piano teachers in the Soviet Union. Edlina's talent was quickly recognized, and she won several prestigious awards and competitions during her early years of study. In 1964, she won the All-Union Piano Competition in Moscow, which was a significant achievement for a young pianist. This win helped launch her career, and she began performing in concerts throughout the Soviet Union. In 1968, Edlina graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory with honors and was offered a teaching position at the same institution. She accepted the offer and began teaching piano to young students while continuing to perform in concerts.
