The Phoenix Chorale is a Grammy Award-winning classical music ensemble based in Phoenix, Arizona. The group was founded in 1958 as the Bach and Madrigal Society, and it has since evolved into one of the most respected choral groups in the United States. The Phoenix Chorale has a rich history of performing a wide range of choral music, from Renaissance and Baroque works to contemporary compositions. The group has collaborated with many renowned conductors and composers, including Robert Shaw, Morten Lauridsen, and Ola Gjeilo. One of the highlights of the Phoenix Chorale's career was its performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony, where it won the award for Best Small Ensemble Performance for its recording of "Spotless Rose: Hymns to the Virgin Mary." This was the first time that a choral ensemble from Arizona had won a Grammy Award. The Phoenix Chorale has also been recognized for its outstanding performances by the American Choral Directors Association, which awarded the group the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence in 2010.
