Seraphic Fire is a Grammy-nominated classical music ensemble based in Miami, Florida. The group was founded in 2002 by conductor Patrick Dupré Quigley, who sought to create a professional vocal ensemble that would perform a wide range of repertoire, from medieval chant to contemporary works. Quigley, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, began his musical career as a boy soprano in the choir of St. Louis Cathedral. He went on to study music at Loyola University New Orleans and the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a master's degree in conducting. After completing his studies, Quigley worked as a conductor and singer in various ensembles, including the Oregon Bach Festival and the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston. In 2002, Quigley moved to Miami and founded Seraphic Fire with a group of local singers. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and innovative programming. Seraphic Fire's repertoire includes works by composers such as Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as contemporary composers like Eric Whitacre and Nico Muhly. One of Seraphic Fire's early highlights was its performance of Bach's Mass in B Minor in 2004. The ensemble's interpretation of the work was praised for its clarity and precision, and it helped establish Seraphic Fire as a leading interpreter of Bach's music. In 2007, Seraphic Fire released its first album, "Reincarnations: A Century of American Choral Music." The album, which featured works by composers such as Samuel Barber and Morten Lauridsen, received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy Award. Since then, Seraphic Fire has released several more albums, including "Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem" and "A Seraphic Fire Christmas." The ensemble has also collaborated with other musicians and ensembles, including the Cleveland Orchestra and the Boston Early Music Festival. In addition to its performances and recordings, Seraphic Fire is committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly works with local schools and community organizations to provide music education and performance opportunities for young people. Seraphic Fire has received numerous awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. In addition to its Grammy nomination, the ensemble has been recognized by organizations such as the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) and the Knight Foundation. Today, Seraphic Fire continues to be a leading interpreter of choral music, known for its innovative programming and high-quality performances. The ensemble's commitment to music education and outreach ensures that its legacy will continue for years to come.
