Born on May 12, 1965, in Berlin, Germany, Röst showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Röst's musical education began at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he studied piano under the guidance of Professor Klaus Hellwig. He later continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, where he received a diploma in piano performance. Röst also studied conducting with Professor Sergiu Celibidache, one of the most influential conductors of the 20th century. Röst's career as a pianist began in the early 1990s when he won several international competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain, and the International Piano Competition in Leeds, England. These victories brought him international recognition and led to numerous invitations to perform as a soloist with major orchestras around the world. One of Röst's most memorable performances was his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1995. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Emperor" concerto, under the baton of conductor Claudio Abbado. Röst's career as a conductor began in the late 1990s when he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Munich Chamber Orchestra.
