Orchestra Della Toscana, also known as the Tuscany Regional Orchestra, is a classical music ensemble based in Florence, Italy. The orchestra was founded in 1980 by the Tuscany Regional Government with the aim of promoting and preserving the rich musical heritage of the region. The orchestra's early years were marked by a series of successful performances in Italy and abroad, including concerts in Germany, France, and the United States. In 1983, the orchestra made its debut at the prestigious Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy, under the direction of conductor Carlo Maria Giulini. Over the years, the orchestra has collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and soloists in the world, including Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, and Martha Argerich. The orchestra has also recorded extensively, with over 50 albums to its name, including works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky. One of the orchestra's most notable achievements was its participation in the 1990 World Cup opening ceremony in Rome, where it performed alongside Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. In 2000, the orchestra was awarded the prestigious Abbiati Prize for Best Italian Orchestra, an honor that recognized its outstanding contributions to the world of classical music.
