Ensemble Initium is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in Paris, France, and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of classical and contemporary music. The founding members of Ensemble Initium were violinist Raphaël Jouan, cellist Victor Julien-Laferrière, and pianist Adam Laloum. All three musicians had already established themselves as rising stars in the classical music world, having won numerous awards and competitions both individually and as part of other ensembles. The trio came together with the goal of exploring the rich repertoire of chamber music and bringing their own unique interpretations to the works they performed. They were soon joined by clarinetist Raphaël Sévère and violist Marie Chilemme, completing the ensemble's lineup. Ensemble Initium quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. They performed a wide range of works, from classical masterpieces by Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary pieces by living composers. One of the ensemble's early highlights was their performance at the Festival de Pâques in Aix-en-Provence in 2016. Ensemble Initium continued to build their reputation with a series of high-profile performances and collaborations. In 2017, they performed at the Festival de La Roque d'Anthéron, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in France. They also collaborated with renowned pianist Bertrand Chamayou on a program of works by Schumann and Brahms. In 2018, Ensemble Initium released their debut album, featuring works by Brahms and Schumann. The album was widely praised for its exceptional musicianship and sensitive interpretations, with one reviewer describing it as "a stunning debut from one of the most exciting new ensembles in classical music." The ensemble's success continued in 2019, with performances at the Festival de Saint-Denis and the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier. They also collaborated with acclaimed violinist Renaud Capuçon on a program of works by Mozart and Brahms. Ensemble Initium has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2016, they were awarded the Prix Musique de Chambre at the Victoires de la Musique Classique, one of the most prestigious classical music awards in France. They were also named "Rising Stars" by the European Concert Hall Organisation, which led to a series of performances at some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe. Ensemble Initium continues to be one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in classical music today.
