Gallicantus is a British classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music. The group was founded in 2008 by Gabriel Crouch, a renowned choral conductor and singer who has worked with some of the world's most prestigious ensembles, including the King's Singers and the Tallis Scholars. Crouch's vision for Gallicantus was to create a group that would explore the rich and varied repertoire of early music, with a particular focus on the vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The name "Gallicantus" is Latin for "rooster," a reference to the dawn chorus that is a hallmark of early music. From its inception, Gallicantus has been praised for its impeccable musicianship and its ability to bring new life to centuries-old music. The group's performances are characterized by their clarity, precision, and emotional depth, and they have been hailed as some of the finest interpreters of early music working today.
