Reynish started playing the clarinet at the age of 11 and quickly developed a passion for music. Reynish attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied clarinet with Jack Brymer and conducting with Maurice Miles. During his time in the RAF, Reynish played in various ensembles and orchestras and gained valuable experience as a performer. In 1971, Reynish was appointed as the principal clarinetist of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He held this position for 12 years and also served as the orchestra's assistant conductor. During his tenure with the Liverpool Philharmonic, Reynish gained a reputation as a skilled conductor and was invited to conduct other orchestras in the UK and abroad. In 1983, Reynish was appointed as the director of wind and brass studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
