Dr. Svetlana Belsky is a renowned classical pianist, chamber musician, and educator. Born in Moscow, Russia, in 1976, she began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents, both professional musicians, recognized her talent early on and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Belsky received her early musical education at the Gnessin School of Music in Moscow, where she studied with renowned pianist Tatiana Zelikman. She later continued her studies at the Moscow State Conservatory, where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. In 1998, Belsky moved to the United States to pursue further studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. There, she studied with renowned pianist Leon Fleisher and earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance. Throughout her career, Belsky has been recognized for her exceptional talent and musicianship. She has won numerous awards and competitions, including the International Russian Music Piano Competition, the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, and the Artists International Auditions. Belsky has also performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, both in the United States and abroad. She has appeared as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, among others. In addition to her performing career, Belsky is also a dedicated educator. She has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Peabody Conservatory of Music, the University of Chicago, and the Sherwood Conservatory of Music. She is currently a faculty member at the University of Chicago and the North Shore School of Music. Belsky's repertoire is vast and varied, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Russian composers, such as Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich. One of Belsky's most notable performances was her 2010 recital at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. The program featured works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Prokofiev, as well as a world premiere of a work by American composer David Rakowski.
