Eric Lamb is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a flutist. Born in 1980 in Cape Town, South Africa, Lamb grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer, so it was only natural that he would develop an interest in music from a young age. Lamb began playing the flute at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied under various teachers in South Africa before moving to the United States to further his education. He attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in New York City. Throughout his career, Lamb has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and conductors. He has been a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has also collaborated with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Valery Gergiev. One of Lamb's most notable performances was his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2007. He performed the world premiere of a flute concerto by composer Magnus Lindberg, which was written specifically for him. The performance was met with critical acclaim, and Lamb was praised for his virtuosic playing and musicality. Lamb has also been recognized for his recordings. In 2010, he released a CD of works by French composer Olivier Messiaen, which was named one of the best classical recordings of the year by The New York Times.
