The Eroica Trio is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over two decades. Founded in 1999, the trio has become known for their dynamic and passionate performances, as well as their innovative programming and commitment to contemporary music. The founding members of the Eroica Trio are pianist Erika Nickrenz, violinist Adela Peña, and cellist Sara Sant'Ambrogio. All three musicians had established successful solo careers before coming together to form the ensemble. Nickrenz had studied at the Juilliard School and had performed with the New York Philharmonic, while Peña had won numerous awards and competitions and had performed with orchestras such as the Boston Symphony and the London Philharmonic. Sant'Ambrogio had been a member of the prestigious Elysium String Quartet and had performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony. The trio's name, Eroica, is derived from Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, which is often referred to as the "Eroica Symphony." The name reflects the trio's commitment to performing the works of Beethoven and other classical composers, as well as their desire to bring a fresh and exciting approach to these timeless pieces. One of the Eroica Trio's early highlights was their debut performance at Carnegie Hall in 1999. The trio received critical acclaim for their performance of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Shostakovich, and the concert marked the beginning of their rise to international fame. Since then, the trio has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the Eroica Trio's most notable performances was their appearance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where they performed at the opening ceremony.
