Born on January 12, 1921, in Berlin, Germany, Schey showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at a young age. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Schey's musical education began at the Berlin Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer, Walter Gieseking. He later continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, where he received his diploma in piano performance. Schey's career as a concert pianist began in the early 1940s, and he quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent. He made his debut performance in Berlin in 1942, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. Schey's reputation as a pianist continued to grow, and he soon became a sought-after performer in Germany and throughout Europe. In 1949, Schey moved to the United States, where he continued to perform and teach. He quickly established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation, and his performances were highly regarded by audiences and critics alike.
