Artist Info
Genre:Avant-GardeChamberVocalLucas Fels is a renowned cellist and contemporary music performer who has made a significant impact on the classical music scene. Born in 1972 in Germany, Fels began his musical journey at a young age, studying cello with his father, Klaus Fels, who was a cellist and conductor. He later went on to study at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany, where he received his diploma in cello performance. Fels' career as a cellist began in the early 1990s, when he became a member of the Ensemble Recherche, a contemporary music ensemble based in Freiburg. With the ensemble, Fels has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, and has premiered numerous works by contemporary composers. He has also collaborated with other contemporary music ensembles, such as the Arditti Quartet and the Klangforum Wien. One of Fels' most notable performances was his solo performance of Helmut Lachenmann's "Pression" at the Donaueschingen Festival in 1998. The performance was widely praised for its technical virtuosity and emotional depth, and helped establish Fels as one of the leading interpreters of contemporary music. In addition to his work as a performer, Fels is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, as well as at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. He has also given masterclasses and workshops at institutions around the world, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Fels has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2000, he was awarded the Musikpreis of the city of Freiburg, and in 2003 he received the German Record Critics' Award for his recording of the complete works for cello by Iannis Xenakis. He has also been awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music, in recognition of his contributions to contemporary music. Despite his many accomplishments, Fels remains committed to pushing the boundaries of contemporary music and exploring new forms of expression. He continues to perform and record with the Ensemble Recherche, and is constantly seeking out new collaborations and projects. With his technical mastery and deep emotional sensitivity, Lucas Fels is a true artist and innovator in the world of classical music.More....
