Born on July 9, 1976, in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland, Tynan grew up in a musical family. Her father was a singer and her mother played the piano, which inspired her to pursue a career in music. Tynan began her musical training at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, where she studied under the guidance of Veronica Dunne. She later went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she received a postgraduate diploma in opera studies. Tynan's career took off in 2003 when she won the Rosenblatt Recital Song Prize at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. This prestigious award helped to launch her career and led to numerous opportunities to perform on some of the world's most renowned stages. One of Tynan's most notable performances was at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She sang "Abide with Me" in front of a global audience of millions, which was a highlight of her career. She has also performed at the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Salzburg Festival in Austria.
