Slava Grigoryan is a world-renowned classical guitarist and composer from Australia. He was born on October 21, 1976, in Kazakhstan, to a family of musicians. His father, Edward Grigoryan, was a guitarist and his mother, Irina, was a pianist. Slava and his older brother, Leonard, were both introduced to music at a young age and began playing guitar together when they were just four and six years old, respectively. The Grigoryan family moved to Australia in 1981, and Slava and Leonard continued to study music under their father's guidance. They both showed exceptional talent and were soon performing in public. In 1987, at the age of 10, Slava won his first major competition, the Adelaide Eisteddfod, and went on to win many more awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1990, Slava and Leonard formed the Grigoryan Brothers, a guitar duo that quickly gained recognition for their virtuosic playing and innovative arrangements of classical, jazz, and world music. They released their first album, "The Grigoryan Brothers," in 1996, which was followed by several more successful albums, including "Distance" (2003), "Songs Without Words" (2007), and "This Time" (2013). In addition to his work with the Grigoryan Brothers, Slava has also established himself as a solo artist and composer. He has released several solo albums, including "Sonatas and Fantasies" (2001), "Bach: Works for Solo Guitar" (2005), and "Baroque Guitar Concertos" (2014). He has also composed music for film, television, and the concert stage, including the score for the Australian film "The Tracker" (2002) and the guitar concerto "Distance" (2007). Slava has performed extensively throughout Australia and around the world, including at major festivals and venues such as the Sydney Opera House, the Melbourne Recital Centre, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and the Montreux Jazz Festival. He has collaborated with many other musicians and ensembles, including the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and jazz pianist Joe Chindamo. Slava has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to music. In 2002, he was awarded the Young Australian of the Year award for his achievements in music. He has also won several ARIA Awards (the Australian equivalent of the Grammy Awards) for his recordings with the Grigoryan Brothers and as a solo artist. In 2017, he was awarded the Order of Australia for his services to music. Despite his many accomplishments, Slava remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform, record, and compose music, and is committed to sharing his love of music with others through teaching and mentoring young musicians. His passion for music and his exceptional talent have made him one of the most respected and admired classical guitarists of his generation.
