Arutiun Kotchinian is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. Born on August 15, 1961, in Yerevan, Armenia, Kotchinian showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later switched to the cello, which became his primary instrument. Kotchinian's talent was recognized early on, and he was accepted into the Tchaikovsky Special Music School in Moscow at the age of 12. He studied under the guidance of renowned cellist Natalia Shakhovskaya, who recognized his potential and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. After completing his studies at the Tchaikovsky Special Music School, Kotchinian went on to study at the Moscow Conservatory, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in cello performance. During his time at the conservatory, he studied under the tutelage of esteemed cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, who had a profound influence on his musical development. Kotchinian's talent and dedication to his craft soon caught the attention of the music world, and he began to receive invitations to perform at major venues and festivals around the world. He made his debut as a soloist with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra in 1983 and has since performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Kotchinian's performances have been praised for their technical brilliance, emotional depth, and musical sensitivity. He has a particular affinity for the works of Russian composers, such as Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev, and has recorded several albums of their music. In addition to his solo career, Kotchinian is also a dedicated chamber musician and has collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich, violinist Gidon Kremer, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. He is a founding member of the Moscow String Quartet, which has won numerous awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. Kotchinian's contributions to the world of music have been recognized with several awards and honors. In 1990, he was awarded the State Prize of Armenia for his outstanding contributions to the arts. He has also been awarded the Order of Friendship by the Russian Federation and the Order of Honor by the Republic of Armenia.
