He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known conductor in Russia. From a young age, Nikolai showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Nikolai began his musical training at the age of six, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the piano. He studied under some of the best teachers in Russia, and by the age of 12, he had already won several local competitions. His parents recognized his potential and decided to enroll him in the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Vladimir Tropp. During his time at the Moscow Conservatory, Nikolai honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. He was a dedicated student, and he spent countless hours practicing and perfecting his craft. His hard work paid off, and he graduated with honors in 1987. After graduation, Nikolai began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation for his technical skill and his ability to interpret complex pieces of music. He performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Russia, including the Bolshoi Theatre and the Moscow Philharmonic. In 1990, Nikolai was invited to perform at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. This competition is one of the most prestigious in the world, and it attracts some of the best young musicians from around the globe. Nikolai's performance was nothing short of spectacular, and he was awarded first prize in the piano category. This win catapulted Nikolai to international fame, and he began receiving invitations to perform in concert halls around the world.
