He was born on August 1, 1927, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Jensen was the son of a music teacher, and he grew up in a musical family. His father was his first music teacher, and he started playing the piano at the age of six. Jensen's talent for music was evident from a young age, and he quickly became a prodigy. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he received a degree in piano performance. After completing his studies, Jensen began his career as a concert pianist, performing in various venues across Europe. In 1952, Jensen made his debut with the Royal Danish Orchestra, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a huge success, and it marked the beginning of Jensen's career as a conductor. He went on to conduct many orchestras across Europe, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. Jensen's talent as a conductor was recognized by many, and he received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1965, he was awarded the Order of the Dannebrog, which is one of Denmark's highest honors. He was also awarded the Sibelius Medal in 1975, which is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Finnish music. One of Jensen's most significant achievements was his tenure as the principal conductor of the Royal Danish Orchestra. He held this position from 1965 to 1977, and during this time, he transformed the orchestra into one of the finest in the world. He introduced new works by contemporary composers and expanded the orchestra's repertoire to include more modern pieces. Jensen was also known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven and Mozart. He was particularly renowned for his performances of Beethoven's symphonies, which were considered some of the best in the world. His recordings of these works are still considered some of the finest ever made. In addition to his work as a conductor, Jensen was also a composer. He wrote several pieces for orchestra, including a symphony and a piano concerto. His compositions were well-received, and they were performed by many orchestras across Europe. Jensen's career was cut short when he passed away on December 26, 1978, at the age of 51. His death was a great loss to the world of music, and he is still remembered as one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century.
