She grew up in a family of musicians, with her father being a composer and her mother a pianist. Grindenko began playing the violin at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. In 1964, Grindenko entered the Moscow Conservatory, where she studied under the renowned violinist Yuri Yankelevich. She graduated with honors in 1969 and went on to become a member of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1978, Grindenko co-founded the Moscow-based ensemble Opus Posth, which specialized in performing contemporary music. The group quickly gained a reputation for their innovative and daring performances, and Grindenko became known for her virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations. In 1983, Grindenko was invited to join the Kronos Quartet, a renowned American string quartet known for their eclectic repertoire and boundary-pushing performances. Grindenko remained with the Kronos Quartet for five years, during which time she performed on several of their most acclaimed recordings, including "Black Angels" and "White Man Sleeps." In 1988, Grindenko left the Kronos Quartet to focus on her own projects. She founded the Moscow-based ensemble Opus Posth, which continued to perform contemporary music and collaborate with composers from around the world. Grindenko also began to focus on solo performances, and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative violinists of her generation. Throughout her career, Grindenko has been recognized for her contributions to classical music. She has received numerous awards and honors, including the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 1996 and the Order of Merit for the Fatherland in 2006. She has also been a guest lecturer and performer at universities and music festivals around the world.
