Sonia Ganassi is a renowned Italian mezzo-soprano who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on February 23, 1966, in Reggio Emilia, Italy, Ganassi grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a conductor, and her mother was a pianist. From a young age, Ganassi was exposed to classical music and developed a passion for singing. Ganassi began her formal music education at the Conservatory of Reggio Emilia, where she studied piano and singing. She later continued her studies at the Conservatory of Parma, where she specialized in opera singing. During her time at the conservatory, Ganassi received guidance from renowned vocal coaches such as Carlo Bergonzi and Renata Scotto. In 1989, Ganassi made her professional debut at the Teatro Regio in Parma, where she played the role of Cherubino in Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro." Her performance was well-received, and it marked the beginning of her successful career in opera. Ganassi went on to perform in various opera houses across Europe, including La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Vienna State Opera. One of Ganassi's most notable performances was her portrayal of the title role in Rossini's "Tancredi" at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro in 1992. Her performance was praised for its emotional depth and technical brilliance, and it established her as one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of her generation. Ganassi has also performed in several productions of Mozart's operas, including "Don Giovanni," "The Marriage of Figaro," and "Cosi fan tutte." In 1994, she was awarded the Abbiati Prize for Best Female Singer by the Italian National Association of Music Critics.
