Het Collectief is a Belgian classical music ensemble that was founded in 1998. The group is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of contemporary classical music, as well as its interpretations of works by composers from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. The founding members of Het Collectief were clarinetist Benjamin Dieltjens, pianist Thomas Dieltjens, and violinist Wibert Aerts. The group quickly expanded to include other musicians, including cellist Martijn Vink, flutist Toon Fret, and oboist Piet Van Bockstal. From the beginning, Het Collectief was committed to exploring new and challenging works by contemporary composers. The group's first major performance was in 1999, when they premiered a new work by Belgian composer Luc Brewaeys. The piece, titled "L'homme armé," was a complex and challenging work that showcased the ensemble's technical virtuosity and musical sensitivity. Over the years, Het Collectief has continued to push the boundaries of contemporary classical music, commissioning and performing works by some of the most innovative and exciting composers of our time. These include works by Kaija Saariaho, Philippe Boesmans, and Georges Aperghis, among others. In addition to their work with contemporary composers, Het Collectief has also gained a reputation for their interpretations of works by classical composers. The group's performances of works by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven have been praised for their clarity, precision, and emotional depth. One of the highlights of Het Collectief's career came in 2008, when they were invited to perform at the prestigious Festival d'Avignon in France. The group's performance of works by Luciano Berio and György Ligeti was met with critical acclaim, and helped to establish Het Collectief as one of the most exciting and innovative classical music ensembles in Europe. In addition to their performances, Het Collectief has also been recognized for their recordings. The group's 2006 recording of works by Belgian composer Luc Brewaeys was awarded the prestigious Klara Award for Best Contemporary Music Recording. Throughout their career, Het Collectief has remained committed to pushing the boundaries of classical music and exploring new and challenging works.
