Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a singer. Maria grew up in a musical family, and her parents encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Maria started her music education at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where she studied piano and voice. She was a talented student and won several awards for her performances. In 1930, she made her debut as a soprano in Budapest, and her performance was well-received by the audience. In 1932, Maria moved to Berlin, Germany, to further her music education. She studied with the famous soprano Lotte Lehmann and the conductor Bruno Walter. Maria's talent and hard work paid off, and she soon became a sought-after performer in Germany. Maria's breakthrough came in 1935 when she was invited to perform at the Salzburg Festival in Austria. She sang the role of Pamina in Mozart's "The Magic Flute," and her performance was a huge success. Maria's beautiful voice and stage presence impressed the audience and the critics, and she became an overnight sensation. After her success at the Salzburg Festival, Maria was invited to perform at the Vienna State Opera, where she made her debut as Donna Anna in Mozart's "Don Giovanni."
