From a young age, Zagonara showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Zagonara's musical education began at the Conservatory of Bologna, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and composer, Ferruccio Busoni. He later continued his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he studied under the tutelage of Carlo Zecchi. Zagonara's talent as a pianist was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition for his exceptional skills. In 1947, he won the prestigious Busoni Prize, which was awarded to him for his outstanding performance of Busoni's Piano Concerto. This was a significant achievement for Zagonara, as the Busoni Prize was one of the most prestigious awards in the world of classical music. Following his success at the Busoni Prize, Zagonara began to perform extensively throughout Europe and the United States.
