Birth:1978Ingrid Andsnes is a Norwegian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and insightful interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Oslo in 1977, Andsnes began playing the piano at the age of four and showed an early talent for the instrument. She studied at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany, where she received her diploma with distinction. Andsnes has won numerous awards and prizes throughout her career, including first prize at the 1990 Steinway Competition in Oslo, the 1998 Grieg Prize, and the 2002 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. She has also been a finalist in several major international competitions, including the Leeds International Piano Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition. Andsnes has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. She has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Mariss Jansons, and Sir Simon Rattle, and has appeared at major festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms. One of Andsnes's most notable achievements was her performance of all five Beethoven piano concertos with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, which she recorded for EMI Classics. The recordings were widely praised for their clarity, sensitivity, and technical brilliance, and earned Andsnes a Grammy nomination in 2009. Andsnes is also a dedicated chamber musician, and has collaborated with many of the world's leading instrumentalists and singers.
