Born on May 18, 1976, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Roussev began playing the violin at the age of five. He showed a natural talent for the instrument and quickly became recognized as a prodigy. Roussev's parents recognized his talent early on and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began his formal training at the National School of Music in Sofia, where he studied with Professor Boyan Lechev. Roussev's talent was evident from the start, and he quickly became one of the school's top students. In 1990, Roussev won first prize at the National Competition for Young Musicians in Bulgaria.
