Quatuor Molinari is a renowned classical music quartet based in Montreal, Canada. The quartet was founded in 1997 by four accomplished musicians, namely Olga Ranzenhofer (violin), Antoine Bareil (violin), Frédéric Lambert (viola), and Pierre-Alain Bouvrette (cello). The quartet has since become one of the most sought-after chamber music ensembles in Canada and beyond. The quartet's name, Quatuor Molinari, is derived from the name of the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Viotti's violin, which was made by the famous Italian luthier Giovanni Battista Guadagnini in 1773. The quartet's name is a tribute to Viotti, who was a prominent figure in the development of the string quartet genre. Quatuor Molinari's repertoire is diverse, ranging from classical to contemporary music. The quartet has performed works by renowned composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, and Schubert, as well as contemporary composers such as John Adams, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass. The quartet's performances are known for their technical precision, musicality, and emotional depth. Over the years, Quatuor Molinari has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Canada and around the world. In 2012, the quartet was awarded the Prix Opus for "Discovery of the Year" for their recording of works by Canadian composer André Prévost.
