Tale Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey. The quartet consists of four members: Efdal Altun (violin), Eylül Büyüközkan (violin), Esra Gül (viola), and Çağ Erçağ (cello). The ensemble has gained recognition for their unique interpretations of classical music and their ability to blend traditional and contemporary styles. The founding members of Tale Quartet met while studying at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. They quickly discovered a shared passion for classical music and decided to form a quartet. The ensemble's name, Tale, is derived from the Turkish word "tale" which means "story". The quartet aims to tell stories through their music and to connect with audiences on an emotional level. Tale Quartet has performed in numerous venues across Turkey and Europe, including the Istanbul Music Festival, the Ankara Music Festival, and the Rheingau Music Festival in Germany. They have also collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Fazıl Say and cellist Gautier Capuçon. One of the highlights of Tale Quartet's career was their performance at the 2015 Istanbul Music Festival. The quartet performed a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Shostakovich to a sold-out audience. Their performance was praised for its technical precision and emotional depth. In 2016, Tale Quartet was awarded the prestigious Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra Award for their outstanding contributions to classical music. The award is given annually to musicians who have made significant contributions to the development of classical music in Turkey. Tale Quartet's repertoire includes works by classical composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn, as well as contemporary composers such as Arvo Pärt and Philip Glass. The quartet is known for their ability to blend traditional and contemporary styles, creating a unique sound that is both innovative and timeless. In addition to their performances, Tale Quartet is also committed to music education. They regularly give masterclasses and workshops to young musicians, sharing their knowledge and experience with the next generation of classical musicians.
