Shao-Chia Lü is a renowned classical music conductor from Taiwan. He was born on August 24, 1959, in Taichung, Taiwan. Lü grew up in a family that was passionate about music, and he started playing the piano at a young age. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Lü attended the National Taiwan Normal University, where he studied music theory and composition. He later went to the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, Austria, where he studied conducting under the tutelage of Hans Swarowsky. Lü also studied with Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, and Claudio Abbado. Lü began his career as a conductor in 1985 when he was appointed as the assistant conductor of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. He quickly gained recognition for his talent and was appointed as the principal conductor of the orchestra in 1989. Lü held this position for ten years and helped to establish the orchestra as one of the leading orchestras in Asia. In 1999, Lü was appointed as the principal conductor of the Macao Orchestra. He held this position for six years and helped to establish the orchestra as one of the leading orchestras in China. During his tenure, Lü conducted numerous concerts and recordings, including the complete symphonies of Beethoven and Brahms. Lü has also conducted many other orchestras around the world, including the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also conducted at many prestigious music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the BBC Proms. One of Lü's most significant achievements was his appointment as the principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan in 2010. This was a significant milestone in his career, as it was the first time a Taiwanese conductor had been appointed to lead the orchestra.
