Period:RenaissanceBaroqueGenre:ChoralRebecca Outram is a renowned British soprano who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born in 1971 in the town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, England, Outram grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father was a music teacher, and her mother was a pianist, so it was only natural that Outram would develop an interest in music from a young age. Outram began her musical training at the age of six when she started taking piano lessons. She quickly showed a talent for the instrument and went on to win several local competitions. However, it was her singing voice that truly captured her imagination, and she began taking singing lessons at the age of 12. Outram's talent as a singer was evident from the start, and she quickly began to make a name for herself in the local music scene. She joined the Suffolk Youth Choir and went on to become a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. She also won several awards for her singing, including the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Award in 1994. Outram's career as a professional singer began in earnest in the mid-1990s when she joined the renowned early music ensemble, The English Concert. The group, which was founded in 1973 by Trevor Pinnock, is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music on period instruments. Outram quickly became a key member of the ensemble, and her performances with the group helped to establish her reputation as one of the leading sopranos of her generation. One of the highlights of Outram's career with The English Concert was her performance in Handel's oratorio, "Messiah." The piece, which was first performed in Dublin in 1742, is one of the most famous works in the classical music repertoire. Outram's performance of the soprano solos in the piece was widely praised, and it helped to establish her as one of the leading interpreters of Handel's music. Outram's success with The English Concert led to a number of other opportunities in the classical music world. She began to perform with other leading early music ensembles, including The Academy of Ancient Music and The Sixteen. She also began to perform in opera productions, making her debut with the English National Opera in 1999 in a production of Handel's "Semele." One of the highlights of Outram's career in opera was her performance in the title role of Handel's "Partenope" at the English National Opera in 2008. The production, which was directed by Christopher Alden, was widely praised for its innovative staging and Outram's performance was singled out for particular praise. In addition to her work in opera and with early music ensembles, Outram has also performed with a number of modern orchestras and conductors. She has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, among others. She has also worked with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and Sir Roger Norrington. Outram's talent as a singer has been recognized with a number of awards and honors over the course of her career. In addition to the Kathleen Ferrier Award, she has won the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist Award and the Handel Singing Competition. She has also been nominated for a Grammy Award for her recording of Handel's "Messiah" with The Sixteen. Despite her success, Outram remains committed to her craft and continues to work hard to improve her singing.More....
