Born on December 31, 1961, in Groningen, Netherlands, Rubingh showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. Rubingh's career as a musician began in the 1980s when he joined the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, a chamber orchestra known for its innovative programming and collaborations with contemporary composers. Rubingh quickly established himself as a talented violinist and became the orchestra's concertmaster in 1988. During his time with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Rubingh performed in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In addition to his work with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Rubingh has also performed as a soloist with many other orchestras, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He has also arranged music for a variety of ensembles, including the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, and the Dutch National Ballet. One of Rubingh's most notable achievements as an arranger was his work on the album "The Four Seasons Recomposed" by German-British composer Max Richter. Rubingh arranged Richter's reimagining of Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" for string orchestra and solo violin, and the album became a critical and commercial success. Rubingh also performed as the solo violinist on the album, which was released in 2012. Rubingh's contributions to classical music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1993, he was awarded the Dutch Music Prize, the highest honor for a classical musician in the Netherlands. He has also been awarded the Edison Classical Music Award, the Dutch equivalent of the Grammy Awards, for his recordings with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Rubingh's career has been marked by many highlights, including his performances at the opening ceremony of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and the 2006 World Cup in Germany. He has also performed at major music festivals around the world, including the BBC Proms in London and the Salzburg Festival in Austria. In addition to his work as a musician, Rubingh is also a dedicated teacher.
