Born on August 28, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joselson showed an early aptitude for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Joselson's early musical education was guided by his mother, who was a pianist and teacher. He studied with her until the age of 12, when he began taking lessons with the renowned pianist and pedagogue Rosina Lhévinne. Under Lhévinne's tutelage, Joselson developed a deep understanding of the piano and its repertoire, as well as a rigorous technical foundation. In 1966, at the age of 17, Joselson won the prestigious Leventritt Competition, which launched his career as a concert pianist. He went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1970 and a Master of Music degree in 1971. During his time at Juilliard, Joselson studied with some of the most renowned pianists of the time, including Adele Marcus, Sascha Gorodnitzki, and Rosalyn Tureck. Joselson's career as a concert pianist took off in the 1970s, and he quickly established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation. He made his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 1972, playing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 under the baton of Leonard Bernstein. This performance was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth, and it cemented Joselson's reputation as a pianist of exceptional talent. Over the course of his career, Joselson has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors of the time, including Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, and Lorin Maazel. Joselson's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by many of the great composers of the classical tradition. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Liszt, and he has recorded numerous albums of their works. His recordings have received critical acclaim and have won several awards, including a Grammy nomination for his recording of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the London Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as a concert pianist, Joselson is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Maryland.
