The Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their angelic voices for over 50 years. Founded in 1964 by Barbara Born, the chorus has grown from a small group of 35 children to a world-class ensemble of over 500 singers. Born, a music educator and choral conductor, started the chorus with the goal of providing children with a high-quality choral experience. She believed that children had a natural ability to sing and that with proper training, they could achieve a level of excellence that would rival any adult choir. The chorus quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional performances and was invited to perform at the White House in 1978 for President Jimmy Carter. This was a significant milestone for the chorus, as it was the first time they had performed on a national stage. Over the years, the chorus has continued to impress audiences with their beautiful harmonies and impeccable technique. They have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. One of the highlights of the chorus's career was their performance at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. They were selected to perform at the opening ceremony, where they sang the Olympic Hymn in front of a global audience of millions. The chorus has also received numerous awards and accolades for their outstanding performances. In 1999, they were awarded the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America. This award is given to choirs that demonstrate exceptional artistic quality, innovation, and community engagement.
